So, my husband's brother got married in Hawaii and my mother-in-law & father-in-law decided they wanted to throw a reception for them. I volunteered to make the cake. This was my first wedding cake EVER! I started to do research online. I checked out Hawaiian Resort Wedding sites and Hawaiian themed wedding cake ideas on line. I remembered helping my mom set up wedding cakes and her working with florists. The florist would make pieces with flowers that would set up on the cakes. So I decided I would make a simple white buttercream frosted cake and I would make mini flower arrangements to place on the cake. It turned out just as I had hoped. And I'm pretty sure the bride and groom liked the cake too!
I cut the cardboards that the cakes sat on to the same size as the cake (with the exception of the base cardboard), so they were less noticeable, I also used doll rods to support each cake. I cut 4 rods to the depth of the bottom cake, then put them in the center of the cake then placed the next cake on top. I repeated that process for the next layer.
I thought that a wedding cake was going to be impossible. I didn't think I could pull it off, but I was pleased with the outcome!
